Round 9 - Georgia Dome - Atlanta, GA

450 Main Event:

For the second week in a row Aussie Shift MX rider Chad Reed rocketed off to a great start. Reedy was looking solid after last week’s win but the privateer Yamaha of Weston Peick was right there and several lead changes in the early part of the race took place until Reed slid out and dropped the bike on a turn, landing him in 7th for the night.

Injured rider Kenny Roczen rode tough but was deep in the mix and at one point almost crashed into Peick after he came together with Anderson. Kroc would finish 8th, but after another win from Dungey the championship is slipping further away for the Suzuki rider.

250 Main Event:

The action packed 250 class didn’t disappoint with the championship battle between Musquin and Martin carrying on.

After a troubled heat race Musquin managed a clean holeshot in the main event, while Jeremy Martin was buried in the pack with a lot of work to do.

Martin would charge back to 2nd place but a technical track with some big whoops would suit the French rider on his KTM and Musquin took a convincing win extending his championship lead to 7 points.

FIM World Motocross Championship Round 1 - Qatar, Losail

MXGP:

The massively anticipated dual between the world champion Antonio Cairoli and Ryan Villopoto was at boiling point leading up to Qatar. But when the gate dropped the pressure got to Villo and he stalled his bike on the start line.

Villo got his Kawasaki fired up and would get on the chase of the pack. His work was cut out for him though as a couple of incidents throughout the race saw him drop the bike a couple of times but an overall 7th place is not a bad recovery and Ryan says he has learnt a lot heading into round 2 this weekend.

Gautier Paulin has been looking dangerous in the off season now riding for Honda, but the different track conditions and riding at night saw Paulin finish in 3rd while Cairoli finished up behind him in 4th.

It was Husky’s weekend though with Max Nagl taking both moto wins and securing himself the lions share of the points heading into round 2.

MX2:

After a horror finish to the 2014 season, Jeffery Herlings was back and fresh off a surgery 2 months prior on his femur which was badly broken last year.

Herlings has spent the last few years dominating the MX2 class, but after being off the bike for around 7 months he said he would be happy just to make a safe finish inside the top 10.

Herlings not only won his heat race, but also both moto’s to give him a perfect scoring weekend and the best possible start to his 2015 season.

Fellow Belgian rider Julien Lieber came close at times for second overall but the round belonged to Jeffrey!
