There's nothing more exciting than getting a new motocross bike, and there are a selection of dirt bike accessories you should consider getting before your fresh steed even hits the dirt.

We've listed seven motocross parts that you're likely going to need when wheeling that brand new bike out of the dealership...

Hour meter: Before you even think about running in your fresh off-road bike, you should have an hour meter installed. Installing one when the bike is new will give you the most accurate times when it comes to crucial bike maintenance, so you'll know exactly when to change the oil or do an engine rebuild down the track.

Grips: Most OEM grips that come standard on majority of dirt bike manufacturers can be pretty tough on your hands, and within a matter of rides, you're bound to look for something a little softer. We recommended grabbing a pair of new grips right away so you can feel at home on your new motocross or enduro bike.

Throttle tube: Adding to above point, some manufacturers, such as KTM and Husqvarna, come fitted with lock-on grips, meaning if you want to replace the standard set, you'll need a new throttle tube to do so. Other manufacturers, such as Suzuki, also mould the grip to the throttle tube, rendering the throttle tube useless for a new set of grips.

Aftermarket air filter: We always recommend getting an aftermarket air filter when first buying your new dirt bike. Many manufacturers come with a basic air filter that doesn't provide the maximum amount of protection, so it's advised to get one that will not only keep your engine protected, but will also be able to be re-used time and time again.

Spare levers: It's always good to have some spare dirt bike parts with you, and if it's a new manufacturer you're switching to, chances are you don't have any. We recommend picking up a spare brake lever and clutch lever, which will come in handy if you break one.

Bolt kit: A bolt kit is one of the best things you can have in your toolbox. You can buy them for specific models so all the bolts and fixings are relevant, and they prove their worth when they get you out of trouble and allow you to continue riding. They're pretty affordable too!

Air box wash cover: When you've just got a new bike, you don't want to risk getting water inside the air boot when pressure cleaning it. This is where an air box wash cover comes in, and it's an absolute must! It will also make cleaning your air box much easier, so there will be less chance of getting dirt inside when you install a freshly oiled air filter.
