Ballards Mini Offroad Chain Breaker
Any rider who has been around for a while has a horror story of a ruined days ride, weekend trip away or Simpson Crossing Trek that all went wrong because no one had tools to fix a dreaded chain malfunction.
No one wants to carry a heavy and bulky chainbreaker "just in case".
The Mini Offroad Chainbreaker, weight is light and compact (approx size of matchbox). It can be used to press the side plate on plus will break the toughest 520 chain.
Special top bolt allows either 12, 13 or 14mm spanner size.
Designed to work with Ballards Ultimate Tyre Levers
In the past I've always shortened a chain by grinding and using a punch to push the link out. Finally decided to bite the bullet and get a chain breaker. After some research I settled on this little beauty and wow! I was able to shorten my new 520 chain while still on the bike! Dynamite really does come in small packages!
Ripper little chain breaker and link press
I've had one of these for 5 years. It's a great little tool. It's a chunky cast iron unit, built very strongly, so it doesn't flex. It lives in my bumbag and so many guys have used it. It's bloody awkward to press on an O or X ring plate and this tool makes it so easy. Its pretty effortless to break a 520 chain too. It has got us out of trouble quite a few times. Only thing you need to take care with is keep it clean, and the threads lubed, as they are under a fair bit of load when breaking a chain. If I lost it, I'd buy another straight away. With this tool and a couple of spare links in your pack, you can relax and enjoy your ride and not worry about chain problems. Highly recommended.
