A dirt bike throttle is amongst the most important components on your MX or enduro bike, and the throttle cables play a crucial role in maintaining the safety of your ride. 

Failure to replace or maintain throttle cables can cause the throttle to become stuck, which can lead to an accident or even worse, injury. 

In this guide, we cover the three key signs that your throttle cable is due for replacing to keep your bike operating in the safest way possible.

Poor condition: One of the first signs you'll need to replace your dirt bike throttle cable is poor condition. Motocross and enduro bikes get thrown through the wringer, and the throttle cables cop their fair amount of abuse. Over time, the outer rubber of the cables can wear through from either rubbing or debris, and if this starts to occur, then it's time to replace them.

Failure to return: A throttle that fails to return can be the result of a number things, such as a damaged throttle tube, however it's more commonly due to an issue with the throttle cables. If you can't identify any other damage or problems that would be causing the throttle to not return, then it's a good sign need a replacement throttle cable.

Stretched cables: The last sign that you need to replace your throttle cables is stretched cables. The key indicator of stretched cables is a throttle that has too much play, yet has run out of adjustment. So if you find your throttle has excessive play in it, yet you've maxed out how far you can adjust it, then it's time to replace your throttle cables.
