We all know how important chain and sprocket maintenance is on an off-road motorcycle, although what is often overlooked is maintenance and replacement of related components, such as chain rollers, sliders and guides.

In this complete guide, we cover the ins and outs to those 'other' chain-related components.

When should I replace my dirt bike chain rollers, chain guide and chain slider?
Chain rollers, chain sliders and chain guides will generally need to be replaced around the same time, however out of the three, a chain slider is most likely to be replaced first. All three are predominantly made from rubber, so it's a case of inspecting the condition of the rubber for wear and tear. You'll generally be able to tell when they need replacing, as the rubber will be worn down and quite thin - potentially even brittle - and if there are any holes, then this is a sign they need to be replacing immediately.

How do I replace my dirt bike chain roller?
Depending on your motocross or enduro bike, you will either have one or two chain rollers. They are incredibly simple to replace, where it's a case of removing the bolt from each one, taking the old roller offer and then installing the new one. Ensure the bolts are nipped up.

How do I replace my chain guide?
The first step to replacing your chain guide is to remove the chain. Once you've removed the chain, you can now undo the bolts on the chain guide holder.

With the holder removed, pull out the rubber chain guide and insert the new one. If you have an aftermarket chain guide that also acts as the holder, it can be installed directly to the bike. If you've simply bought a replacement, then once the rubber guide is fitted to the holder, it can be mounted to your dirt bike.

Finish by reinstalling the chain.

How do I replace my chain slider?
Just like a chain guide, you'll need to remove the chain before installing a new chain slider. After taking off the chain, you can now remove the existing slider, which is generally secured by two bolts on the swingarm.

Following the chain slider removal, the new slider can be installed. Remember to secure the bolts before reinstalling the chain.
