MXSTORE FITMENT GUIDE

Probably the single most commonly asked question we get here every day is "How do I work out the sizing for…" So, finally we are going one step further and are giving you a simple to follow but informative guide on sizing up motocross gear and how each brand differs in fitment. We show you how to avoid wearing a helmet so loose it slips down and covers your vision every time you go over a bump, and how to avoid wearing riding pants which split in half when you try to swing your leg over your bike!

Measuring your head

To accurately measure your head, use a cloth tape measure wrapped around your head horizontally about one inch above your eyebrows and ears, take the CM measurement of the circumference of your head.

NOTE: Always aim to get a tight fitting helmet, if you fall between sizes round the size down, not up. The exception to the rule being kids as they are growing you would be safe to round up to the nearest CM to allow for room to grow. Everyone has a slightly different shaped head, and most helmets are a slightly different fit from brand to brand.

Neck Braces - Helpful Advice

If you have heard of a Motocross neck brace chances are you have heard mixed stories about them. At MXstore we believe spinal protection is important and encourage the use of this safety gear. Please read more about neck brace fitment before making your purchase.

How to fit:

The critical measurements when fitting a neck brace is the chest circumference & depth. Use a soft tape measure and wrap it around the chest 1 inch below the armpits to get the correct measurement. Most neck braces on the market are adjustable so 2-3 models will fit 99% of the riding population. Each brand varies slightly in their sizing, so we have collected the necessary information from each brand.

SELECT BRAND

How to fit:

The critical measurements when fitting a neck brace are the chest circumference & depth. A proper fitting brace will sit flush on the chest and back and will not be able to rock back and forth. Use a soft tape measure and wrap it around the chest 1 inch below the armpits to get the correct measurement. Refer to our “neck braces: separating rumours from reality” blog post to learn more…

SIZE XS/M L/XL

SIZE S/M S/M OR L/XL L/XL
Chest (cm) 55 - 85 85 - 94 95 - 110

Leatt have multiple different models of neck braces such as the 4.5, 5.5 & 6.5 which all have different levels of adjustability. The 6.5 has more range of motion than the 4.5 which is a factor to take into account when choosing size.

All measurements we have collected are jersey dimensions, not body dimensions!
So calculate your size on how much room you need inside the jersey.

SELECT BRAND

Your motocross jersey should be slightly loose fitting as riders get quite hot on the track, and having a little extra room will improve airflow and keep the rider cooler. If you run a pressure suit or body armour under your jersey, we suggest going up in the jersey at least one to two sizes from what you would normally wear. MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS

To find the proper glove size, measure the circumference around your dominant hand while holding all of your fingers apart and out stretched. Do not include your thumb in this measurement and measure lower than all of your knuckles (be careful not to measure too far forward on your pinky finger side as this knuckle is further back). Remember if your gloves are too loose they will bunch and give you blisters so aim for a tight fit!

Motocross Boots fitment

As Motocross Boots are a piece of safety gear, getting the right fit is of most importance for optimum safety. Everyone is different and feet come in all shapes and sizes so it can be difficult choosing the right boot which fits well and is comfortable. All brands of motocross boots are shaped slightly different and have varied levels of safety, regardless of how much you spend on a set of motocross boots getting the right fit will increase your comfort and reduce the risk of lower leg injuries in the event of a crash.

How to choose the right fit

The first step to choosing the right boot is to accurately measure your foot. To do this we recommend wearing your MX socks, place your foot on the ground and measure from the tip of your big toe to your heel. Boots will stretch a little over time so make sure you choose a snug fit. For Kids MXstore suggests going up +1 size to get more use out of the boots before the young ones grow out of them!.

Measuring your Chest

In most cases, body armour fitment can be decided using a chest measurement. To find this measurement, take the circumference of the chest approximately 1″ below the arm pits across your breast bone, be sure to keep the tape measure parallel to the ground for accuracy. Usually we recommend finding out what jersey size you are, and using that as a guide to chest protector sizing as they are the same more often then not.

All measurements we have collected are pant dimensions, not body dimensions! Therefor, base your size off how much room you want inside the pants. Motocross gear should be slightly loose fitting as riders get quite hot on the track, and having a little extra room will improve airflow and keep the rider cooler. Take into consideration that all riders should be wearing knee braces or knee guards which take up extra room inside the pant. Filter by brand above to discover how each brand differs in fitment.

For Kids MXstore suggests going up +1 size to get more use out of the boots before the young ones grow out of them!

Measuring your Chest

In most cases, kids chest protector fitment can be decided using a chest measurement. To find this measurement, take the circumference of the chest approximately 1″ below the arm pits across your breast bone, be sure to keep the tape measure parallel to the ground for accuracy.
