Battle In The Bush Warwick - Wrap Up

Battle In The Bush Warwick was one for the books! Warwick MX is one of Queensland's finest MX tracks, they created a longer track mixing with fast and open enduro sections, prepped to perfection and fun times racing with your mates.

The Warwick MX Club knows how to put on a good show, the MX track was picture perfect chocolate cake after 3 days of track prep in the lead up. Their scientific knowledge of the dirt and top notch irrigation system worked a treat. The open enduro section ducked in and out of trees and the sandy creek bed to keep racing fast and flowing.

Camping the night before kicked off with a big teepee bonfire, cold brews from the club's bar with President Scott Kerridge and his wife Jane serving cold ones and hot dinners, respectively, as we discussed race lines and the healthy club atmosphere after significant upgrades to the venue over recent years, which is a testament to Scott and the switched on committee.

Guns N' Roses "Welcome to the Jungle" woke most riders at sunrise which promptly started rego. Event tees were snapped up along with raffle tickets and entrant goodie bags featuring Ryno Power products to keep people energised all day, everyone was enjoying registering with their teams and sharing a yarn with old and new friends.

There were riders who had not visited for 10 to 20 years, and some riders riding at the epic venue for the first time. Having the opportunity to ride a teams event took the pressure off and kept the vibes high.

Novelty Events

Action kicked off with practice laps, followed by novelty events. The Motorex Barrel Challenge saw legends lined up side by side to see who was quickest, followed by Pod Rut Limbo that went down to 70cms with Jesse Bishop winning the DangerBoy LE 2 Knee Braces, and Daniel Newson took the win in the Pirelli Slow Race!

The 4-Hour Battle

21 teams filled the start grid, team mates held the bike as riders ran and leapt to the saddle in the classic Le Mans start of the 4-Hour Battle In The Bush MX Relay, with Stark Future winning the Pirelli Holeshot award. The prime track saw big grins over the first half of the race, teams were battling for top positions and worked together to complete the challenge.

Stark Future held the lead for the first 8 laps with Team1Lap nipping at their heels before Rooted & Roosted took the lead and held strong in the Open Class till the checkered flag, with The Gundy Boyz holding second and Stark Future taking third from MXstore after battling for the podium place right up to the last lap!

Rooted & Roosted took the win in 4:00:28, completing their 51 laps the fastest of anyone in the class, with The Gundy Boyz just 2 minutes and 15 seconds behind in second and Stark Future rounding out the podium a further 2 minutes back. Notably, Stark Future laid down the fastest lap of the entire Open class, a 4:15.764, nearly 6 seconds quicker than any other team on track. MXstore and The Ark and Bark Crew completed 50 laps each to take fourth and fifth, while Team1Lap put in a solid effort to finish sixth on 49 laps.

PKA Racing had an early injury to team mate Aron, which led to the father (Matt) and son (Kaden) team powering up and racing the 4-Hour relay as a pair, completing a respectable 41 laps and placing 16th in the open class. Well done lads!

Daycare & Dirtbikes took out the Mixed class featuring legend mumma Emma McFerran, with her daughter supporting her and the team the whole way, completing 46 laps in 4:02:35 to claim a dominant 3-lap victory over the Misfits, who finished on 43 laps with young gun Tara Randall showing how it's done.

Two Pro's One Slow dominated the Vets class taking the win with 49 laps, four clear of both BFR Bandits and The Striking Individuals, who finished second and third respectively on 45 laps. The margin between the podium teams was razor-thin at the back end, with BFR Bandits edging The Striking Individuals by just 26 seconds. Two Pro's One Slow also laid down the fastest lap of the Vets class, a scorching 4:36.200, nearly 20 seconds quicker than any other team in the class.

We wrapped up the day with a few coldies and champagne as we awarded the podium winners trophies thanks to Rival Ink, and a bunch of prizes from Motorex, Oakley, Barkbusters, Pirelli and Ballards.
