2026 marks an enormous milestone for off-road racing. The 100th running of the International Six Day Enduro, now officially known as the 6Days, FIM Enduro of Nations, is heading to Portugal. Often called the Olympics of Enduro, the event brings together the best off-road talent from around the globe for six punishing days of special tests, navigation and teamwork.

The centenary edition will be held in Grândola, Portugal, returning racing to a country regarded as a spiritual home of enduro. Riders and teams will arrive from 8 October for pre-race activities, with official racing running from 12 to 17 October 2026, covering roughly 1500km of demanding Alentejo and Lisboa terrain including cork forests and Atlantic coastline. More than 30 nations and 500+ riders are expected to take part in this historic edition.

A Century of the World's Toughest Off-Road Race

Few motorsport events can claim a history like the ISDE. The race traces its roots back to 1913 in Carlisle, Great Britain, where the concept of the Silver Vase was born. Three-rider teams competing on motorcycles manufactured in their own country. The World Trophy followed soon after, contested by four-rider teams free to ride machinery from anywhere in the world. More than a hundred years on, that same spirit of national pride and endurance still sits at the heart of the event, now proudly badged "The Original Enduro Since 1913."

The ISDE's history reads like a roll call of off-road racing's great eras. Great Britain dominated the World Trophy early on, winning it 16 times with the same delegation, while Czechoslovakia set a Silver Vase record of 17 victories that still stands today. Through the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Eastern European powerhouses East Germany and Czechoslovakia ruled the event, before Italy and Sweden emerged as the dominant forces once the event was rebadged the International Six Days of Enduro in the early 1980s.

1985 brought a major shift in format. The Junior Trophy was renamed the Silver Vase, and the World Trophy moved to its modern configuration of six-rider teams free to choose their own machinery. Finland enjoyed its breakthrough Junior success in 1989 behind Kari Tainen, who went on to host his own Six Days just seven years later, cementing enduro's popularity in Scandinavia, while France and Spain also began to establish themselves as enduro powers. The Women's Trophy was introduced in 2007 for three-rider teams and has been dominated by France ever since, and today's event also features a Club Team Award, giving grassroots three-rider club teams the chance to test themselves on the same stages as the world's best.

That century of history is exactly what makes the 2026 edition so significant. Reaching a 100th running is a rare feat in any sport, and doing so in Portugal, a country deeply connected to enduro's rebirth in Europe, adds even more weight to the occasion. For Team Australia and every rider chasing ISDE glory in Grândola, this isn't just another Six Days. It's a chance to be part of a milestone chapter in one of the oldest and most storied events in all of motorsport.

The 2026 squad blends seasoned campaigners with fresh talent stepping up to the international stage for the first time. Kogan Lock and Madi Simpson both graduated from junior class wins in the Yamaha Australian Enduro Championship presented by MXstore (AusEnduro) into instant senior success in 2026, while Simpson's WWT selection is her first taste of ISDE action. In the WT ranks, Kyron Bacon returns off the back of a stellar individual 6th overall finish at the 2025 ISDE, and Josh Strang continues his remarkable ISDE longevity as a Team Australia stalwart with a WT victory to his name from 2018.

In the WWT, Australian Motorsport Hall of Famer Jess Gardiner leads the line alongside Danielle McDonald, who has been tearing up the American enduro scene in 2026, and ISDE debutant Madi Simpson. Australia will be chasing a step up after finishing runner-up in the Women's World Trophy in 2025, while the Junior squad, third overall behind Italy and France last year, looks to build on that podium form in Portugal.

Australia has a proud ISDE history of its own, with 10 Trophy class victories to its name and outright individual success through enduro legends like Shane Watts, Daniel Sanders and Daniel Milner. The country has also hosted the event twice before, in Cessnock (1992) and Traralgon (1998), giving Australian enduro fans a real stake in the event's century-long story as Team Australia heads to Portugal for this historic 100th edition.

Six Australian Club Teams Also Set for Portugal

It's not just the elite Trophy teams flying the flag. Six Australian club teams, comprising 18 riders in total, will also take on the 100th anniversary ISDE. The club contingent features a strong mix of ISDE veterans (some returning for their second, third or even sixth appearance) and first-timers realising a lifelong ambition to race on the international stage.
