Round 1 - Angel Stadium - Anaheim, California

What better way to start the year than having the world’s best supercross riders competing in the season opener for the AMA title just 3 days into the new year?

Some massive changes in the rider/ team line up this year, notably 2014 outdoor 450 champion Ken Roczen riding for FOX & RCH Suzuki, 2014 Lites West coast champion Jason Anderson riding a 450 Husqvarna and the entire Lucas Oil Troy Lee Designs lites team now running KTM to name a few!

In the 450 class Ken Roczen continues his dominating performance from 2014 by taking the round 1 win over the big surprise second place getter, the rookie on a Husky Jason Anderson. Trey Canard is the quiet achiever with a solid 3rd place ahead of an absolutely jam packed starting grid.

To even qualify for the main proved to be a feat on its own with 2014 Australian MX and SX champion Matt Moss riding for Alpinestars and Motul missing out on a starting spot and brother Jake Moss breaking his leg 2 days before race day in a training accident.

Chad Reed was slightly off the pace of the front runners in 10th but with the likes of previous years A1 winners in Thor rider Davi Millsaps finishing in 19th it must have been tough out there for a lot of riders.

Lites class:

In the lites Jessy Nelson aboard the KTM for the Lucas Oil Troy Lee Designs team was the standout, he took the holeshot and lead the main from start to finish in a flawless performance.

Another surprise in the lites was the sight of another Husqvarna on the podium ridden by Zach Osborne. Zach rode a gritty night after an incident with eventual 3rd place getter Tyler Bowers in a heat race left Zach with a broken thumb and having to ride through the last chance qualifier just to get to the main.

Time will tell if Zach can recover from the injury enough to back it up again this weekends racing in Pheonix but for now te Rockstar Husky team landing on the podium in both the main events on the night. Again one of the key ingredients to success seems to be the addition of Aldon Baker training Roczen and Anderson this year.
