Preparing for a motocross championship or event usually starts days and even weeks prior to the race even taking place. We've developed an article below that serves as a guide on what you need to prepare for any upcoming events in motocross racing.

Licence & entry: We've all seen that rider before who either forgot to enter the event, of they've rocked up on race day and their licence has expired. In some, and most, cases, this will mean you won't be able to even line up, wasting both your time and money, and no doubt ruining your weekend. Ensure you're registered for the race well in advance of the event, as well checking your competition licence is in date.

Nutrition & hydration: There's nothing worse than feeling lethargic and dehydrated at a motocross race, which is why nutrition and hydration is super important leading up to an event. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water in the days prior to race day, and as always, fuelling yourself with nutritious food.

Gear: It's incredibly important that your riding gear is ready to go motocross racing, as failing to do so could ruin your weekend. Your gear should be clean, and you should definitely have a spare set packed - you never what's going to happen when you're racing dirt bikes! Clean gear goes for your entire kit from head to toe, and the most important piece of gear preparation is your goggles - it's always best to have multiple set-ups for the day, which will keep you out of trouble in the vision department.

Bike: Preparing your motocross bike for race day is without a doubt the most important factor of race day preparation. Without undertaking the proper maintenance and preparation, you're potentially setting yourself up for a mechanical on the day of the event. It's also important to ensure your bike meets all of the requirements to pass scrutineering, as failing to do so could end your weekend before it event starts. This includes making sure your spokes are adequately tensioned, no movement in your wheels, throttle returns, brakes work and foot pegs return.
