What is the Finke?

There's nothing quite as iconic as the Finke Desert Race! This unique two day offroad race is for bikes, cars, and buggies racing from Alice Springs to Aputula (Finke), traveling through the Australian desert. The race is held each year on the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June, hosted in one of the most remote places in Australia... and if that wasn't enough, it's considered to be one of the most difficult offroad courses in the world! It's easy to see why the Finke is on many people's bucket lists.

Desert Dads?

Matty McFerran (ex Motorcross and Freestyle athlete) decided to race the Finke in 2022 onboard his 20 plus year old XR600 with next to no preparation. There is no doubt that just completing the Finke is a huge achievement both mentally and physically with 2 full days of back to back riding. Once he finished, Matty broke down in tears from the physical and mental exhaustion of completing such a huge achievement. He swore that he would never do it again.... then roughly a month later Matty changed his mind deciding he would use his previous experience to improve his result with better preparation and a more reliable XR600.

Matty couldn't help but share his passion for XR600's and the Finke with his friends and family as he prepared to take on the 2023 race, quickly he had 2 mates jump on board. Both of the boys decided to buy XR600's and set them up the same as Matty with help from Ballard's and MXstore forming their own team "Desert Dads".

Goodluck:

Look out for this trio at the 2023 Finke Desert Race as they attempt to race through the treacherous Australian desert! Will the bikes and the boys be up for the challenge? Stay tuned for more Finke episodes coming soon...

Desert dads

We just finished our postie bike safari, 10th year anniversary from Mackay to chilligo and back . 3000kms over 8 days. You guys should get on board nxt year. It’s a fundraiser for children with cancer. Most epic 8 days spent with top blokes and they allow modified posties as well .

I second the idea for a comp to join the boys in the future! Would be a dream come true

Sounds like we might have to organise something!

Full team

Run a comp and let someone win a spot on the team. That race is a dream to some that they may never get to experience.
