Team Australia Motocross of Nations 2022

Motocross of Nations is back and we could not be more excited! 2019 was the last time Australia took part in "The Olympics of Motocross" event, and with a truly star-studded team in line for 2022, emotions are running high as we chase our first ever Motocross of Nations victory for Australia. We're super proud to be back on board for our second year with Team Australia as the major sponsor for the team and we can't wait to get to Redbud for this year's event!

For those unfamiliar with the Motocross of Nations, each country participating sends a 3 rider team to compete across 3 different races, in their 3 respective classes - MXGP, MX2 and MX Open. Each class races 2 races; MXGP & MX2, MX2 & MX Open, MXGP and MX Open. The lowest finish from the 6 total results is then discarded, and with an Olympic style scoring system for the remaining 5 results of your country's riders, the nation with the lowest cumulative score wins the trophy!

With that in mind, let's take a look at the seriously impressive group of riders donning the green and gold for the 2022 MXoN event!

Jett Lawrence

We'd be lying if we said we weren't excited about this one. Perhaps the biggest name in motocross today, it's no surprise to see teenage sensation Jett Lawrence in line to make his Team Australia debut at this year's Motocross of Nations. What may be surprising is the bike he'll be riding, with Jett tipped to jump up to the 450 machine, instead of his usual Honda CRF250R, in the MX Open class.

As the reigning champion of the 250 Pro Motocross championship in the US, as well as the current points leader in the 2022 series, Jett is undoubtedly one of the fastest 250 riders in the world. With speed to burn and a riding style to rival the absolute best of them, we're pumped to see Jett make his professional 450 debut and we have no doubt he's going to make Australia proud. The 19-year-old Sunshine Coast prodigy has a tremendous career ahead of him and we're looking forward to seeing him in the green and gold for many years to come!

Hunter Lawrence

With little bro bumping up to the 450 class, it falls on fellow Sunshine Coast product Hunter Lawrence to pilot the 250 at this year's event. Hunter is no stranger to the Motocross of Nations, having previously represented Australia at the 2017 and 2018 events, for extremely good results! His debut at the 2017 event at Matterley Basin saw him claim the MX2 class win with 4-8 scores overall, and his follow-up performance at Redbud back in 2018 saw him take a close 2nd behind Jorge Prado with 7-2 scores. Safe to say that Hunter knows what it takes to deliver in the MX2 class at the MXoN events!

Hunter has been in red hot form throughout 2022, coming a close second to Christian Craig in the 250SX West Championship, and currently trailing only his brother by a narrow margin in the 250MX Championship. Hunter has shown he is one of the few riders with the speed to rival (and beat) Jett on the 250, with only his starts letting him down in a couple of motos through the series. With Jett jumping up to the 450 for the team, Hunter is the obvious selection to pilot the 250, and we know he's going to give it his all!

Mitch Evans

Completing the trio of factory HRC riders is MXGP star Mitch Evans, also riding the 450 machine. Like Hunter, Mitch is no stranger to the Motocross of Nations, having made his debut for Team Australia at the 2016 event in MX2 and followed up in 2018 at Redbud on the 450 machine. Mitch put in a huge performance at Redbud to bring home 7th overall in the MX Open class with 10-12 moto scores, limping home in his second race for 12th after blowing out his spokes while running 8th over the iconic Larocco's Leap. It was a great performance from the young Aussie and we're stoked to see him back in the team.

Mitch has battled injury issues for the past couple of MXGP seasons, but when he has been healthy and race fit he has shown he has the speed to run with the best of them. Mitch has been building throughout the 2022 MXGP season and is certainly finding his form as we approach the 2022 MXoN event, giving Team Australia an extremely capable lineup that has fans and critics alike predicting a podium finish at a minimum. We can't wait to see Mitch flying the Aussie flag at Redbud once again!
